The Perfect Day

This is a short story I wrote about my missionary a while back, but I like it so much I thought I would post it here too.

Beth was in love. Being in love positively surpassed every living emotion she’d ever had! She was convinced nothing could separate her from Robert, the man of her dreams. She had waited and suffered through a lot of rough spots and heartache to find him, but she did it! She found him and she was never going to let him go. Robert, one day, discovered he had a very important mission to carry out before they could bind their love together, forever, in the beautiful ribbon we call marriage. He had to leave Beth. He had to go away for a very long time to complete his task in full. Beth and Robert both knew it would be long and hard, but that in the end it would only strengthen their relationship. They spent every possible moment together until he left.
Once he was gone, Beth cried herself to sleep every night for months. She felt torn. She finally found the piece of her that she was born without, and he was yanked out from under her at her most tender and vulnerable moment. She kept telling herself to be brave, and to think of how this would affect their love in the end. Every day she had to remind herself that it was worth it, but the strain of being so far apart grew. They fought, not often, but too much for their liking.
As the years passed, and the time for his arrival drew near, Beth’s excitement grew. She knew that with all they had overcome together, he must be feeling the same. He must’ve known that she was thinking marriage. She knew it. She could feel that there was more to them than some silly crush, however short their relationship had been. She had no idea of the exact date of his return, but she knew that he loved her. Or, did he?
He hadn’t written her for a matter of weeks now, leaving her completely unsure of what was going to happen. She had said something a little out of line, but she was sure he would understand what she really meant by it. Weeks went by and nothing. He was supposed to arrive in the early summer and spring was nearly over. Finally, on the very last day of spring, a small package arrived in the mail.
Beth opened the package, and pulled out a note. It read:

Babe-
Lets get married

Tears rolled down her cheeks. She knew this is what she had been waiting for. Even though there was no return address, and the note was not signed, she knew who sent it. She was more in love than ever, if that was possible, and she could hardly contain her joy. She turned the package over and into her hand fell a ring pop. Her knees grew weak and she fell to the ground. He remembered! She was happier than she could ever remember feeling!
Beth still had no idea of the exact date of Robert’s return, but she kept the note with her always. She went for a walk, on a particularly fine day, and just smiled. The sun was warm, and perfect. The wind was light, and perfect. The day couldn’t possibly get any better until…Coming up around the bend there he was! The one she had waited for! Every fight, every mean word, every hardship was all worth it. It was all building to this perfect and beautiful moment!
She ran straight into his arms and kissed him. He held her tight and whispered, “My arms ached to hold you again like this… I will never let you go, again.” It was the perfect ending, to a perfect day.

Welcome!

Welcome to my new and improved blog! Woot!

I often post short stories based on my life, or sometimes I vent. But, mostly, I write down the inspirations I get from hanging around my friends! Hope all is enjoyable reading, and welcome aboard the S.S. Brynnie-kins!
